RCU believes good saving habits begin at a young age. That's why we started the RCU school site program. We opened our first elementary site in 1993 and since then we've added seven more. RCU also has two high school sites, one middle school site, and a site at the Rice Lake Boys and Girls Club. We opened the first high school site in October 2002 at Memorial High School in Eau Claire. Then in October 2005, RCU opened its second high school site at North High School, also in
Eau Claire. In October of 2007, RCU opened its first middle school site at Northstar Middle School in Eau Claire. In January 2008, the Rice Lake Boys and Girls Club RCU was established.

Every school year, we hire 4th and 5th graders to work at the school site branch. Those interested complete an application and go through an interview. Once they have been hired, they are required to go through training to learn the computer system, confidentiality, Member service, marketing, and much more!
The school site
is
open once a
week, some in
the mornings,
others over the
lunch hour, and
any child or staff
member can make
deposits into their
RCU account. For
every fourth
deposit they
make, they can receive a prize that ranges from key chains to erasers to pencil sharpeners. The school also benefits from this partnership — for every 500 deposits, the school receives $250. It's a great fundraiser for the school, and the students become great savers. During the 2007 school year, students and faculty at all the school sites combined saved over $110,000!

The middle school site is staffed by students selected from the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade classes using the same hiring and training process as the elementary schools. Northstar RCU is open every Tuesday and Thursday during the lunch hour. The student employees perform deposit and withdrawal transactions for students and faculty alike and are actively involved in the design and creation of in-school marketing materials. Rewards are given to the students for accumulated deposits, and the school receives donations based on the number of deposits made. By partnering with the middle school, RCU encourages and reinforces the basic principles of saving money.

Employees are hired from the Business Youth Apprenticeship class or the Financial Youth Apprenticeship Program. This is the perfect job for those students who are very involved in other school activities and sports.
Both sites are
open
for students
and staff. They
offer most of the same services as any
other office. When the students aren't working at the school RCU, they are scheduled at the other offices on the teller line.
The Boys and Girls Club RCU provides a unique opportunity for young people of a variety of ages to take part in a learning experience that will teach them the importance of saving money. Student employees are selected and interviewed based on their completed information form. The site is open every Tuesday from 3:30 - 4:30 for Club members and staff to make deposits and withdrawls. |
