Royal’s superheroes of saving reached over 700 students during their Takeover Day Summer Edition in July!

The financial education team had a blast teaching financial literacy lessons across the Minnesota Metro throughout the month of July! They taught a total of 36 lessons to over 700 elementary and middle school students at six different YMCA and community programs in Hudson, Woodbury, and St Paul.

Thanks to our sweet new partner, Crumbl Cookies, each student received a FREE cookie coupon redeemable at any one of their participating locations! Keeping with the theme, kindergarten and 1st grade students learned that money adds up fast as they built their very own paper cookie using a base flavor, six fun frosting flavors – like smores and cotton candy, and six unique toppings including gummy worms (a fan favorite!) and toasted marshmallows, all costing various amounts that they added up at the end.

2nd and 3rd graders discovered facts about coins and dollar bills in our exciting money bingo activity, and 4th and 5th graders put their creativity to the test when they had to budget for and build the tallest standing tower out of paper clips, straws, and tape. 6th through 8th grade students learned whether they had entrepreneur potential in a fun and interactive four-corners activity!

We are grateful to our growing list of community partners that help make this program a success each year. Although they took their capes off for the summer, Royal’s saving superheroes will be flying into over 30 schools this fall to continue financial education with our School $ense program and tons of other events we host in our communities each year.
