Royal Credit Union was made up of just 100 Members when it was organized in April 1964 to serve the employees of Uniroyal and their families. In November of 1972, Royal was granted permission to add other employee groups to its membership; and over the next two years we did just that, bringing 27 new groups into the family. That popularity told us we were ready for a community charter.

With more than 200,000 Members today, on the surface we don't really look like we did when we just occupied a small office in a tire plant. But there are many, many things that have remained true from day one. These things are highlighted in our Core Values, which you will find here and posted in each of our offices. More importantly, you will find these Core Values instilled in each of our team members, who make sure to listen to your story and help you in any way they can.

1964: We're rolling. A group of Uniroyal Tire employees launches a credit union.

1975: Join us. Royal becomes a community credit union, 10,000 Members strong.

1993: Money. Wise. Our first School $ense location opens.

1995: Lace up! The first annual RCU Charity Classic is run in Eau Claire.

2009: Welcome, Vikes fans! A merger with REAL Credit Union brings three Minnesota locations into the Royal family.

2013: Wowzers! We reach 150,000 Members.

2015: Positive impact. Certified as a Community Development Financial Institution (CDFI) by the U.S. Department of the Treasury.

          Nice bling. We're honored to be named CUNA's Community Credit Union of the Year in the over $250M asset category.

         Lover of learning. For the third year in a row, Royal earns the distinguished Wisconsin Governor's Financial Literacy Award.

2016: Westward ho! Two acquisitions in the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro, Capital Bank in St. Paul and a Deerwood Bank office in Apple Valley, bring Royal's value proposition to more Members, and adding to our total number of offices.

          Future focus. Royal launches the Smart Connection, a program designed to connect the 18-25 year old contingent to financial resources and education, preparing them to conquer adulting like a pro.

2018: Stillwater office opens and we hit 200,000 Members!
